Gas Furnace Repair and Replacement

New and old gas furnaces require quite a bit of attention. Twice a year, a maintenance inspection should be scheduled for your unit. Let a reliable and experienced technician from All About Heat & Air help. We can quickly go over every part of your heating system, looking for breaks, damages, and more. Our technicians will clean the parts of the furnace that collect debris easily, like the filters and exhaust fans. But even with regular inspections, things still happen and you may need gas furnace repairs. If you are concerned about your furnace, there are a few signs to look for.

Signs of Gas Furnace Repair Needs

Before agreeing to a complete gas furnace replacement, first look for any potential repairs. There are several things to look for, but as a homeowner, it is not recommended to attempt any repairs on your own. Instead, rely on a licensed technician, like anyone from the All About Heat & Air team. Our technicians are in fact licensed by the state to perform necessary repairs to residential gas lines.

Ignition Systems

The purpose of the ignition system is to spark the burning of gas inside of your furnace’s combustion system. Historically, almost all gas furnaces accomplished this task by means of a pilot light. The pilot light–essentially a small open flame–remains perpetually lit, waiting to provide the combustion energy the next time the furnace comes on.

Hot surface igniters are a more recent development. These electrical apparatuses are constructed from a substance such as silicon carbide. When the furnace is turned on, electricity flows into the igniter, causing it to glow red hot. Once it has reached the appropriate temperature to combust the gas, a flame sensor opens up the main burner valve, thus allowing gas to flow into the combustion chamber.

Benefits Of Hot Surface Igniters

There are several good reasons why hot surface igniters have become the ignition system of choice on most furnaces. Unlike pilot light ignition systems, this type of system reduces fuel waste by only burning fuel when the furnace is running. Hot surface igniters tend to require less maintenance than pilot lights and are also quieter than pilot light or direct spark ignition systems which make a loud clicking sound when they light up.
